Your personality matters…
Let me clarify at the beginning itself- by Personality I don’t mean your external appearance, your looks, your posture, dressing style, etc.. that’s a different topic and enough has been said about it.
By personality, I mean what kind of persona you are from inside.
The one that’s seen when people come near you, interact with you.. spend some time with you.. maybe work with you .. or live with you.
While external personality might help you in winning initial rounds of impression and access to opportunities, your real personality is what matters the most in your survival and success in the long term.
Although there are billions of personalities and every individual on the planet is unique. All individuals can be BROADLY categorized into one of the 4 types of personalities which will be discussed in detail in this series of 5 articles.
The Broader type of personality prevails in daily life with finer variations coming from deeper distinct attributes like intelligences and learning system.
So lets quickly understand what are those 4 types of personalities I am talking of
Eagles are dominant having an eye on targets and opportunities, they are task-oriented. Such individuals are stimulated by challenges and are known to be decisive, direct, blunt and even often stubborn. Eagles are natural achievers. They are go-getters and opportunists and could sometimes also be insensitive to others’ needs. One of the biggest risks with these people is that they may lose sight of the big picture
Peacocks are individuals who love to talk; they enjoy being the center of attention, are often passionate and enthusiastic.
They are happy go lucky and extremely optimistic. Peacock styled personalities are often accused of talking too much, and one of their biggest weaknesses is that they aren’t good with detail and time-management.
The dove personality individuals are people-orientated, loyal, friendly, extremely diligent and hard-working. They are great team players. They tend to avoid changes, conflict or confrontation, they are not large risk-takers and aren’t really overly assertive. They are possessive by nature; for them, relationships come first and take precedence over everything else including tasks. Even after they have decided, they tend to take time to execute especially when the relationship is at stake.
The owl influenced individuals are compliant. They can be identified as individuals, who are logical, mathematical, methodical at all times and sometimes can be seen as a perfectionist. The owl can be slow to make decisions and inflexible if rules and logic say otherwise. Owls are not big risk-takers but love details.
Experience says that these personality traits play a major role in the personal and professional progress of any individual. A proper understanding of these personality traits will help the individual and those around in fruitful, effective and successful communication and relationships.
Many of the interpersonal conflicts are resolved after understanding these personality traits and altering the responses accordingly.
If you are a parent then understanding these traits in your child at an early age is immensely advantageous. It Saves you from a lot of anxiety and also you can manage your grooming resources much better.
Sometimes a person has mixed traits as well, however counseling sessions with an expert counselor will help you understand his/her personality correctly and hence you can adapt your parenting practices accordingly.
These personality traits when understood with the strengths of various Inborn Intelligences and Learning system of the child, help parents in understanding their child more accurately thereby cementing their bonding and making the grooming efforts more effective.
Thus facilitating your Child to Realize and display his Genius abilities to make a more successful and SATISFIED Life.
Dr. William Moulton Marston was a psychologist and an anthropologist who after studying thousands of human behaviors and their personalities developed the concept of DISC profile. After many years of research, he submitted his thesis in the late 1920s which divides the human personalities into 4 categories i.e. D for Dominant, I for Influential, S for Steady and C for Compliant. (Or DISC for short). DISC profile has been in use for many years for multiple purposes like sales, marketing management, HR, etc.
Over the years, different versions of the same theory developed including BEST (Bold-Expressive – Sympathetic Technical). Later on another scientist, Dr. Gary Couture added bird profiling to the same theory – Eagle, Peacock, Dove and Owl and it became very popular worldwide.
